Toscana is the most enduringly famous of all Italian wine regions, thanks to the romantic glamor of its endless rolling hills, cypress-lined country roads and hilltop villages. But even without all of this, evaluated on the merits of its wines alone, Toscana stands tall, its reputation founded on such iconic wines as Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Super Tuscan.
Today, Toscana is one of the most famous and prolific wine regions anywhere in Europe. Its vineyards produce an array of internationally recognised wines in various styles.
The farm ‘Pietroso’ started in Montalcino in the 1970s. The aim is to produce a limited quantity of fine wines such as Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. Today the business is run by family member Gianni Pignattai who also has the expertise of Alex Dondi, an enologist and Lucio Maruotti, an agronomist. The farm covers 8.5 hectares, 3.5 are cultivated with vines for the production of Brunello di Montalcino and there is one hectare of olive trees.
